Abstract

Ecotherapy, an emerging field grounded in the therapeutic potential of nature, emphasizes the interconnection between mental, physical, and environmental well-being. Engaging with the natural world through practices such as mindful walking, gardening, animal-assisted therapy, and forest bathing has been shown to reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and enhance resilience. Recent research highlights ecotherapy’s effectiveness in trauma recovery, suggesting that nature can serve as a co-participant in healing rather than a passive setting. Studies demonstrate improvements in depression, attachment security, and somatic regulation through nature-based interventions. As ecotherapy training and research expand globally, this holistic modality offers accessible, embodied pathways to psychological well-being, inviting individuals to cultivate restorative relationships with nature.
